Where the characters and continuity are different in each new title. But also is NOT a video game, or a Japanese series?

I was trying to explain the concept behind the Final Fantasy sequels to someone who wasn't familiar with them, and why you don't need to play the first 6 games in order to understand VII, and why there is a Final Fantasy X-2 AND and a Final Fantasy XI. I was trying to find something to compare it to that wasn't another JRPG, or something like Super Sentai (which I felt would be too obscure to be helpful) and was surprised by how much I struggled to think of anything. I guess using that kind of non-interconnected style for a franchise was not as common as I expected. I was wondering if anyone had any decent examples from other media.

So what the game mode doesn't tell you is that when you become the target you instantly get your ult. So the meta is picking a character that can follow up quickly with their ultimate.

Echo is the worst since she gets a full health refill, and can't be killed during it. And if you think you can just play Echo to beat Echo it won't work, she can't Duplicate herself.

I loved the fact they let the first episode stand as its own thing. One thing I was worried going into this was they'd panic and be afraid that they'd lose the viewer's interest without including obvious plot points about what the story is really about or throwing in big showy action and drama scenes upfront to placate the Marvel brand's expectations. But having the first episode just be a standard sitcom plot with only little else to give things away works really well to keep things surreal and shows a lot of faith in the patience of the audience. I absolutely appreciate it, and more shows and media could do well to have that subtlety and willingness to commit to daring things like that.

Is there any way to see when your first win was?

I remember doing this thing where'd I'd choose whichever weapon has the dark bonus, but it kept on alternating between two weapons I hated so I gave up on it and stuck with shield and won fairly quickly after that.

FF2 on Origins was kind of bad, though, mostly because of the levelling system. I wouldn't be surprised if the remake is better.

Well, the leveling system in the Advance version was adjusted so it's at least actually playable. It's still weird, but you can generally go through the game without needing to beat up your own characters to get stronger anymore.

It also allows you to save anywhere, which fixes that issue with those stupid trap doors that are in every dungeon. It's not a great game, but I at least found the Advance version of FF2 to be playable and a fairly fun game if you're into old-school RPGs. Compared to say, FF3, which is a better designed game that has no good playable version so I can't even rank it higher than 2...

I think the GBA version of 1+2 are fine, and I generally prefer them to the PSX or original versions. I think the point is that they're not simply "updated ports" like FF5 or 6 Advance; they instead make large scale changes to the game system. For example, instead of having a limited amount of magic "charges" to cast spells, the remakes have a traditional MP system like the other FF games.

It is a matter of preference though. Personally I feel the Advance versions of 1+2 are easier to play. And I wouldn't wish the original version of FF2 on anyone... >_>. But it's up to you.

Jabba's palace feels so pointless when the movie is considered in its entirety. It also goes on way too long, and that stupid song they added in the special edition is just the worst. I do still like the scenes in it, but if I'm honestly reviewing the movie as a whole I can't consider it a redeeming element.

Although that metal bikini is probably one of the greatest gifts in cinema history.

Cyan is such a bizarre character to think about in hindsight for several reasons, particularly for me since I started playing with the SNES version. First of all, it's still jarring to think that his name is most likely supposed to be pronounced with a hard 'C' (his Japanese name is Cayenne, but that wouldn't fit the letter cap for names). It's also not made as obvious that he's supposed to be this "Eastern foreign land" type character. His archaic samurai-style speech was translated as olde English, which was a valiant attempt to try and localize it but doesn't quite fit the theme (and was only used sporadically in the SNES script anyway), his "Bushido" techniques were called "SwordTech" in the original English translation, and the fact that they're all written in Kanji is also something that just could not be translated well*, and while Doma's music sounds fairly Eastern, graphically it doesn't look that much different from any other castle in the game, which muddles the whole concept behind the style his character is supposed to represent. As a kid, I had never picked up on it.

(* Also, random trivia, but in the Japanese version you could rename Cyan's Bushido skills. But only in Kanji.)

I rewatched Return of the Jedi when Disney+ came out and yeah, that helped get my feelings settled about the franchise. The movie is just not good, even though the throne room scene was still incredible. I can't call it a good installment as a whole though, which changed what my previous opinions on the series was: "At least the original trilogy was good."

Also, it was really hard to watch that ending where everybody is celebrating and happy that the Empire's been defeated knowing that in 30 years everything in the galaxy is going to be more miserable than ever and that pretty much all my favorite characters are going to die pointlessly with every victory they've made becoming worthless. That's why I really hate these soft reboot sequels. Couldn't we just have had a brand new story for the sequel trilogy? So that the original story could simply rest in piece?

Honestly the sequel trilogy made me realize that I kind of don't like Star Wars apparently. I thought I was a fan, but like so much of it is just plain awful.

The only things I really like that Star Wars actually made itself (so not counting the fun fandom stuff) are the first two movies, Star Tours, and now The Mandalorian. Why is so much of this series so poorly done?

Also (speculation spoilers) If this takes place three weeks after Endgame, and Far From Home was like, what, eight months(?) afterwards, that kind of throws a huge wrench into the theories that this will end with mutants being integrated with the MCU somehow. Unless they're all kept secret or something.

I love seeing more snap-related stuff.

I liked the touch of the missing people being referred to as playing the part of the cast.

Seeing Monica sent flying out of Westview was fucking awesome.

But yeah, I can kind of agree that this wasn't as interesting as the sitcom-based episodes. Once the fact that S.W.O.R.D. was observing them and not sure what was going on, and that Wanda knows what's happening was confirmed there really wasn't much else use to the episode. And unfortunately Kat Dennings was not a great episode lead.

Speaking of things I missed, I'm guessing Banon just died when Vector was mangled with the Floating Continent? I didn't see his body or a message from him anywhere. And was there anything I missed with Siegfried and his impostor?

Oh yeah, I meant to bring this up when you finished the game but... yeah, those plotlines just kind of are never resolved. Needlessly to say this bugged people for years and years and was the source for an endless amount of conspiracy theories and rumors over the game.

Banon is just assumed to have died after the Empire's betrayal, but fans loved to to assume he was just hiding somewhere in the World of Ruin. A lot of people made theories that he was Gogo, at least the ones that didn't think Gogo was Adlai Stevenson...

Siegfried is even worse since the whole thing all feels like it's building to something but it never does. It doesn't help that the original English translation accidentally spelled his name three separate ways, which made the whole "someone was pretending to be him" thing even MORE confusing. Some people liked to think the imposter was actually Gilgamesh, since they had the same personality, although Gilgamesh actually being added to the GBA version makes it shakier. Another theory is that the imposter was Gogo (needless to say, the mystery behind Gogo's identity was the fuel for a LOT of conspiracy theories. Remember, FFV had not been released when the English version of VI came out, so very few people would accept that it was simply a reference to that game and were convinced there was something more to the character). When this game was being developed, the way you would originally recruit Gogo was by finding them throughout the World of Ruin disguised as your missing party members. The whole thing with Siegfried's imposter might have been a clue that was supposed to point you towards finding this out. The truth may never be known....

Shadow's backstory is meant to be ambiguous, although it's still fairly easy to figure out by piecing things together. Noticed how the guard dog Interceptor was always friendly to Relm? And how Shadow is the only other character that can equip Relm's Memento Ring?

As far as the bonus dungeons go, they're only extra challenges for those willing to test themselves. They were added in the Advance version, and there's nothing to be gained from doing them but the self-respect of clearing them. Whether they're worth doing is basically up to you and how you feel about testing your abilities and seeing if you've mastered the game's battles.

So I need a little help. I checked my Vanguard account, and everything seems to be up and running. It says the funds are available in it to trade, just not to withdraw, but I thought it'd take up to 7 days? And my bank account hasn't updated any information about the transfer.

I think when I signed up it said that Vanguard ETFs could be done as soon as it was finished, but stocks would take 7 days. So I'm still not good, right? When will I know for sure if it's okay to use the funds in my account to trade stocks? Again, it says they're available even though my bank hasn't acknowledged it yet.

Well, I signed up for a Robinhood account the other day to see if I could join in the action, but it's still waiting to be verified. Then this shit happens. Now I need to find something new.

I really want to jump in since I feel once the dust settles the white hot rage from people who wanted to buy these stocks will cause them to skyrocket, but I'm also kind of feeling like I shouldn't sign up for another brokerage until I see which one is trustworthy after this.

At one point an eerie message warning us the end is nigh appears, and I think he's gearing up for an attack but no it's just the end of the boss fight!

That should be him preparing his ultimate attack. You might have simply killed him before he can pull it off.

The ending actually changes depending on who you manage to find and bring to the final dungeon. You can indeed just complete it with only Celes, Edgar, and Setzer (Terra will show up anyway for the final scenes no matter what though).

I just remembered that I once bought a used copy of Dark Cloud 2 that had a disc error that would cause it to randomly freeze anywhere between 10 minutes to 2 hours of playtime. It was completely inconsistent when and where the freezes would occur, which meant you couldn't simply play around it, and that was NOT a game that always let you save as often as you'd hope.

I still powered through it though. I guess these things don't bother me if I really like the game.

There have been times where I've been playing a Civilization game for a few hours and then get dragged into a long and bad war that, even if I win it, cripples my production so badly I have no chance of winning the game and just quit the whole thing.

On the other hand, when I first played Final Fantasy 9 I had my save erased halfway through Disc 2 three times in a row and I still kept returning to it...

Very recently I was playing an RPG where I was grinding for a rare drop and was like "I'll check this next area" and in the back of my head I was thinking how bad it would be if there was an automatic cutscene in that area that would force a boss fight but dismissed it as being completely unlikely since it was just an unassuming random area that I had been in before... and there was an automatic cutscene that forced a boss fight. I technically didn't lose any progress but I was so ticked off I stopped playing for two days.

The easiest one to miss is the underwater one. Did you remember to return to the Serpent Trench in the previous world? Aside from that the only other way to get it is from the Leviathan battle. After that you're out of luck. Aside from that remember that each major battle background has a dance associated with it. If you've had Mog in your party a lot you've probably collected the common ones, so the next most obscure one to me is the Snow background which I think should still be able to be gotten in the Narshe cliffs.

Speaking of which, have you taken a good look at the above-ground Serpent Trench in the ruined world? You can see clearly now how it's shaped like a snake, complete with a mouth. Kind of neat.

Okay, I checked my GBA save file and:

• Yes, Odin simply has his own empty space.
• And for whatever reason there are TWO final empty spaces in the GBA Esper list instead of one. Must be something about how the menu list is arranged (three columns instead of the SNES's two)
